DELOREAN
Civil Society is proud to announce the debut Australian tour of Barcelona’s Delorean, as part of Parklife 2010, following the release of their new album, Subiza (out now through Remote Control/Inertia)
The scenario that created the incarnation of Delorean that we see today is almost unheard of in popular music: Four guys from the Basque country currently based in Barcelona, free as air, high on o2, who originally started as part of the Spanish punk scene, and now find themselves embracing effervescent dance-pop.
After relocating to Barcelona, the band members found themselves frustrated with the quality of the local Barcelonan dance music scene, created their own eclectic club night, Desperrame, in response. This forum allowed them to continue the evolution of their own music, and create remixes for the likes of The Teenagers, The Mystery Jets, The Big Pink, The XX and Franz Ferdinand.
Following their successful visit to SXSW 2007, the band released Transatlantic KK on the New York-based Simple Social Graces label, which featured a number of tracks already present on the earlier Into The Plateau – which was not widely available in America.
This was followed by the Ayrton Senna EP in 2009, which was awarded ‘best new music’ on Pitchfork, and rave reviews by NME, The Fader, The Guardian, Xlr8r and ABC News (USA) also gave the record excellent reviews.
Subiza, the band’s third full length album, is an evolution 10 years in the making, a fusion of dance music (including their native Spanish Balearic house) and contemporary pop music. Recorded by Hans Krüger and mixed by Chris Coady (!!!, Lemonade, Telepathe, Gang Gang Dance), the album melds and textures dance-club rhythms and airy melodies, making for a deeply obsessive, hypnotic album that retains the easy appeal of great pop music.
In support of Subiza the band will bring their distinctive sound to Australia for the first time. Don’t miss your chance to see Delorean traverse the line between dance music and independent pop as only they know how for Parklife 2010.
