Tunng

“…skewed-pop in the Belle and Sebastian sense” MAG

“unadulterated genius – we’re practically drooling” NME

Tunng’s distinctive electronica-infused folk, accentuated by percussive hailstorms, mysterious vocal samples, plaintive lyrics and acoustic guitars glides effortlessly from gentle clubbing beats to moving dark dreamy pop.

Tunng were formed in London in 2003 when producer / guitarist Mike met singer songwriter Sam on the circuit. The line-up expanded to a six piece for live gigs - Ashley Bates, Phil Winter, Becky Jacobs and Martin Smith now make up the rest of the band.

“We’ve become much more of a unit, thinking together and playing together and understanding each other,” says Mike. “The songwriting is more related to pop themes than anything traditional and the production is more related to skiffle bands than electronica. It is a more accessible record but still challenging genres and full of surprises.”

So now Tunng exist as a tough little unit – Mike taking care of business, and his and Sam’s song writing partnership at the heart of the sound, but with all the musicians pooling their collective cultural and personal resources to make pop music the way they always dreamed it could sound – ‘Good Arrows’. ‘Good Arrows’ being the calling card for the band and the unmistakable sound of Tunng reaching maturity as a *band*.
Tunng are not standing still - their sound gets stronger and clearer, album-by-album, gig-by-gig. It’s been an unorthodox story to date, and it’s barely begun yet.
