Def Jux 2006 Tour - Mr Lif + Cage
Civil Society is excited to present the Def Jux 2006 Tour - featuring Mr Lif and Cage, two of the label’s most prized artists.
This tour coincides with the release of Mr Lif’s new album Mo’ Mega, the long awaited follow-up to his ‘I Phantom’ album and hot off the trails from his success with The Perceptionists in 2005. Mo’ Mega sees US cult hip hop figure Mr Lif back with an arsenal of new rhymes, showcasing his talents as an MC, poet and true-life reporter. You need not look further than your television or newspaper for the inspiration behind Lif’s new album, Mo’ Mega delivers a modern take on America that is simultaneously personal and political. Some artists make albums because they can, the great ones make albums because they have to – Mo’ Mega is the album Mr Lif had to make.
Sharing the platform on this tour is Lif’s label mate Cage, aka Chris Palko - Def Jux’s most recent stellar signing. Cage’s highly acclaimed first album on Def Jux: Hell’s Winter, was two years in the making and is an album of immense detail and self-exploration. Cage’s story is one of the most intense, crazy, tortured and triumphant tales you’ll hear. Cage’s life has gone from watching his father shoot heroin, to addiction, violence and
mental institutions. The reality of having a child inspired the final culmination and personal triumph of this album. Hell’s Winter is a world of its own, in which Cage explores and exorcised his incredibly troubled childhood and adolescence.
The result is both beautiful and pain-full, a coming of age record. Allow Cage himself to tell his own tale, as his mesmerising artistic vision comes to life onstage.
Ripping the mics Downunder with Lif and Cage is SA Smash’s main man: Metro and Weatherman member Yak Ballz. Also along for the ride to spin some tunes is DJ Krazy Glue.
Together Mr Lif and Cage will showcase the best of Def Jux’s latest offerings and is definitely not to be missed.
